Overview

PyPSA-AR is an open model of Argentina's SADI system, built on the 500 kV transmission netwrok by Fundación Torcuato Di Tella (FTDT). It models generation, demand, and transmission for 2024, as well as solving capacity expansion problems for future years

Models

We build and host a reduced set of PyPSA-AR models on this page for easy and free access, in Convexity .db format and in PyPSA .nc format. Convexity .db files let each unitsits at its true geographic location on the map (273 distinct sites) We build the open model in two configurations:

  • 2024 dispatch -- monthly-chunked dispatch solved over the 500kV network with 343 buses and 575 generators
  • 2035 expansion -- clustered 10-region network with scaled demand, solving capacity expansion at NREL-ATB-2035 costs

The 500 kV network topology comes from a CAMMESA PSS/E base case, geolocated against GeoSADI (substation/line coordinates). Marginal costs and efficiencies are derived from CAMMESA. The capacity expansion model adds 50 new expandable generators over the 2024 dispatch model. Brazilian imports are not dispatched (6 % of 2024 energy), so thermal/hydro pick up that share.
